Bringing structured program management to technology operations
We helped our client address operational issues and institute effective Program Management tools and processes, providing it with the means to expand in support of a rapidly-growing firm.
The Situation
One of the world’s top private equity firms had experienced several years of explosive growth, but its Technology Operations had not kept pace with the expansion of the firm. The group was thinly staffed, struggling with key skill gaps, and plagued by a lack of transparency with respect to relevant stakeholders. Operational issues with highly visible business applications routinely caused distractions and delays. Moreover, a lack of program management discipline and an ad-hoc system for project prioritization prevented critical projects from being completed.
The Satori Solution
To improve visibility into the status, challenges, and strategic profile of each project, we implemented a set of registers, reports, and dashboards targeted toward specific groups of stakeholders. In order to capture and prioritize all packages of work within the group, we developed and implemented a Book of Work, which served as a log for all potential work items. It included criteria used to evaluate, categorize, prioritize, approve, and schedule the work in a standardized and governed manner. With Program Management discipline and tools in place, the group could focus on filling skill gaps and stabilizing day-to-day operations.
The Results
Our sustainable solutions gave our client a forward-looking view, allowing it to execute current projects and plan for future initiatives. The Technology Operations group continues to use our tools and processes as it expands to meet the needs of the firm.
