Creating a disciplined program management structure

We helped our client improve on-time delivery of critical information technology projects by implementing a new governance structure, process, and tools.

The Situation
With over 25,000 employees and a market cap in excess of $50 billion, a financial services industry leader routinely launched large-scale Information Technology projects led by the office of the Chief Technology Officer (CTO). The CTO group, however, lacked the program management discipline to efficiently drive projects to completion and often missed key deadlines. The group was thinly staffed and operated with limited bandwidth. A lack of governance, a decentralized structure and a weak process for accountability and control further hampered the group’s progress.

The Satori Solution
We worked side-by-side with the client to craft and implement a sustainable solution for managing a broad range of current and future projects. Specifically, we developed a web-based interactive dashboard that captured real-time information of relevance to senior management. The dashboard offered a visual assessment of the initiative’s progress, user acceptance, critical issues and other areas of interest to the executive team.

We worked with the 200-person CTO group to develop and coordinate training for all global IT initiatives, with particular attention given to consistency, adoption challenges and overall user-friendliness. We also designed a professional development and coaching program to broaden the group's skill set and general effectiveness

The Results
The CTO group delivered a global solution that included clear and repeatable methods for prioritizing, launching and tracking projects, while adopting clear system development standards. The group was able to provide more effective results and to improve on-time delivery by 25%.
