Strengthening business resiliency with remote working

We helped our client strengthen its Business Continuity plans by designing and executing a series of global remote working exercises.

The Situation
As part of its Business Continuity Planning focus, a leading investment bank was committed to operating effectively during a potential long-term business disruption, such as a pandemic. Rather than focusing on site recovery, a continuity model for long-term outages must disperse employees to minimize the risk of infection in the workplace. Remote working is a key component of this recovery strategy. In recognition of this, the bank engaged Satori Consulting to develop a formal policy for global Home Working Environment (HWE) tests that would govern requirements and expectations for both the employees and the firm. Additionally, Satori was tasked with organizing and managing the first series of global HWE exercises.

The Satori Solution
Our first step was to form a cross-divisional working group for exercise planning and executing, which coordinated the identification of test participants from global divisions such as technology, communications, compliance, and human resources. In preparation for the test, we created communication frameworks targeted toward exercise participants and managers.

To mitigate issues that could disrupt the exercise, we developed a communication and escalation process and established a 24/7 help desk to support remote users. After the completion of the exercise, we conducted a survey that measured participants’ effectiveness in communicating and working with local and international teams. We also led a post-mortem discussion with the working group on test results, survey responses, and lessons learned.

With our assistance, the client continues to improve its resiliency and is committed to ensuring that it could effectively operate during a long-term disruption to the business.
