Building a Performance Support Community

Summary

We helped a global pharmaceutical company develop an internal community that overcame operational constraints and achieved a critical new platform for organizational communication.

Situation

One of the world’s largest pharmaceutical company was experiencing an exodus of key commercial talent. The COO’s hypothesis was that the flat organizational model, which was the result of a recent enterprise-wide restructuring, left employees without traditional vertical career paths and feeling that there were few growth opportunities. In addition, he believed that the lack of coordination between commercial and marketing colleagues diminished individuals’ accountability and responsiveness in developing winning go-to-market propositions.

Satori Solution

The project was divided into four workstreams: Talent Planning, Career Development, Compensation, and Communications and Community Building. We deployed the workout approach to achieve pragmatic and rapid results for all four workstreams. The workout approach followed four phases to solution development including issue identification, brainstorming, recommendations development, and finalization of recommendations.

Results

The project achieved the central goals of the COO, and a new Commercial Community was launched through a global event. We put a coordinated set of processes, tools, events, rewards and training in place to empower commercial colleagues to reach their maximum potential, and to reinforce collaboration between them.
