Managing Change and Communications to Support a Global Procurement Transformation

Situation

The Procurement organization of a global paper and packaging leader embarked on a transformation of their organization.  Their vision was to become a best-in-class procurement function by promoting innovation, sustainability and fostering stronger relationships with suppliers and customers.  The geographic scope of the transformation included North America, LATAM, EMEA and APAC.

They sought to emerge from this journey as a valued strategic partner within the company and key contributor to the firm’s financial strength and competitive edge.   The transformation involved several elements:

  • Organizational restructuring and realignment
  • Establishment of a global managed services partnership with an offshore outsourcing provider
  • Optimized and improved source-to-pay (S2C) and procure-to-pay (P2P) processes
  • Improved governance and reporting
  • Deployment of new tools and technology

This transformation introduced significant change to Procurement and Operations.

Satori Solution

We led the Change and Communications workstream of a multi-workstream program to support this effort.  Our responsibilities included:

  • Identifying and understanding the affected stakeholders and manner in which they were being impacted
  • Creating a change and communication plan to ensure impacted colleagues were informed, engaged and prepared for the new operating model
  • Executing against the change and communications plan
  • Assessing change readiness and adjusting the plan

Results

The deliberate approach to managing change supported the successful S2C and P2P capability deployments.   Our team achieved several outcomes that directly contributed to these successful implementations, which included:

  • Engaged stakeholders, internal customers and suppliers who understood the need for change and how to engage Procurement in the new operating model
  • Directly impacted colleagues who understood the case for change and bought into the transformation
  • Successful rollout of new processes and tools to colleagues who were prepared to leverage them and adopt new ways of working
